The Maesteg Gleeman Male Voice Choir from Wales celebrates 50 years

POINTE-CLAIRE—In their last stop before their Carnegie Hall concert, the 80 voices of an award-winning choir from Wales and the Montreal Welsh Male Choir will hold a concert at St. John’s United Church on Sunday, September 7, at 7:30 PM.
The two choirs will perform an eclectic mix - from folk songs, gospel and famous hymns to songs from stage shows and musicals – hopefully something for every taste. “We expect the deeply rich sound of 80 experienced male singers will make for an impressive and pleasant evening,” said Richard Howells, Secretary of the Maesteg Gleeman choir.
The Maesteg Gleemen Male Voice Choir is in Montreal on its 50th Anniversary Tour of North America. Their Musical Director, Alun Hodges has led the choir to a first place finish in the 2008 Eisteddfodau Teulu James Pantyfedwen and second place finish in the 2008 National Eisteddfod.
The Montreal Welsh Male Choir, well known in local music circles, has performed at London’s famed Royal Albert Hall. The Carnegie Hall concert on September 16th will feature 500 male voices.
Tickets for the concert at St. John’s United Church, 98 Aurora, in Pointe-Claire, cost $15 per person. While they can be purchased at the door, we recommend buying tickets ahead of time to avoid disappointment. Tickets are available from Fiona: 514-693-1186; or Dale: RPPR, 23 Valois Bay, 514-426-7137. Profits from the concert support the work of St. John's United Church.
