690 Lakeshore Squadron Wins the Brian W. Darling, CD, West Island Regional Trophy.
The honour was tied this year with 830 Pierrefonds Squadron.
This is the fifth time in six years, 690 Lakeshore Squadron received the award.
The trophy was presented by LCol (ret’d) Brian W. Darling, during the Squadron’s Parents’ Night Parade on Monday Nov. 3, as more than 300 cadets/parents/grandparents looked on.
The trophy is presented for achievement and participation at the West Island Regional Competitions during the previous cadet year.
All the members of 690 Squadron’s various teams were invited to accept the award, including Bronze Medal winning basketball, bowling and effective speaking teams, Silver Medal winning floor hockey, volleyball & ultimate frisbee teams, and Gold Medal winning soccer team. A phenomenal 42 cadets from 690 Lakeshore Squadron participated in the various competitions last year.
Despite the award, 690’s philosophy is not about winning. Cadets are selected for the various West Island regional competitions based on their attendance and motivation at practices. Furthermore a “2 Team” limit is applied so that all cadets have the opportunity to participate in one of the many West Island regional competitions.
Also during the evening’s parade, 41 new members became official Air Cadets – standing in front of family and friends promising to be good citizens, FCpl Liam Carroll received the International Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, 13 cadets were promoted to Sergeant and Flight Sergeant. In addition Sgt Damian Rivera was presented with a Graduation Plaque upon reaching his 19th birthday.
