No pot for these lobsters

When Allen Abrams received a shipment of lobsters last week, he expected to do what he always does: get them ready for sale at his Pecheur du marché store in Dollard des Ormeaux.
But two of the crustaceans were given a reprieve when Abrams decided to feed them rather than sell them as food.
“I’m giving them some time to strengthen up and then send them back to Nova Scotia with instructions that they be put back to sea,” Abrams said last week. “These lobsters are special.”
What makes them so special is that they are between 60 and 70 years-old and weigh 15 and 17 pounds respectively.
“The average lobster we sell is between 1.5 and two pounds,” Abrams said. “So you can see that they’ve been around a long time - I can’t kill them.”
Abrams he is justifying his decision because of the size of the lobsters.
“I never ate one that size but I imagine they would be tough and that makes my decision easier to justify,” Abrams said.
In fact, said Abrams, the lobsters were originally routed to Boston for a sea-food show last weekend but a delivery mix-up routed them to Abrams instead.
“I guess it was fate that they ended up here,” he said.
