The West Island Youth Symphony Orchestra launches its 27th season
The opening concert of the West Island Youth Symphony Orchestra’s 27th season will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, at Saint Joachim Church, 2 Ste-Anne Street in Pointe-Claire.
Entitled Destination: London, the concert will feature music that shares a special connection with the British capital, including Haydn’s “Drum Roll” Symphony, which he composed while visiting the city in 1795, Edward Elgar’s Cockaigne Overture (“In London Town”), and a symphonic suite from John William’s music for the Harry Potter film series.
The concert will open with Fall Fair by the Canadian composer Godfrey Ridout.
The featured soloist for the concert will be the Orchestra’s principal violist, Shannon Wilson, who will perform Paul Hindemith’s Trauermusik, which the German master composed and performed on the BBC as a tribute to King George V after the monarch’s death in 1936.
The concert will be conducted by WIYSO Artistic Director Stewart Grant.
Individual tickets for this concert are priced at $20 for general admission and $10 for students and senior citizens.
Subscriptions are also available for $40 and $20 for the orchestra’s three-concert series.
