Maxine Jones served with legal papers

Court to hear claim that wife of disgraced money manager has no claim to couple's real estate

Maxine Jones was served with legal papers yesterday declaring she has no interest in the four properties held either jointly or in her name alone that were purchased by her and Earl Jones while they were married.

The wife of the disgraced money manager had claimed her matrimonial right to 50 per cent of the properties when she filed for divorce on Sept. 14.

The homes in Dorval, Tremblant and Boca Raton, Fla., are jointly owned by Earl and Maxine Jones. The condo for their elder daughter in an assisted-living facility in Hyannis, Mass., is owned by a realty trust registered in Maxine’s name alone.

All properties were seized when Earl Jones was declared bankrupt last summer.

A motion from the trustee handling both the personal and corporate bankruptcy of Jones was served to Maxine yesterday and filed with the court. The motion asks a Superior Court judge to rule on the matter.

The motion, with attached evidence exhibits, states that everything, including acquisition and maintenance for all the properties, was paid for with money taken from an “in trust” account that held client funds.

The motion asks that the realty trust in Massachusetts sell the Hyannis property and deliver the funds to the trustee. The trustee expects to meet with Maxine Jones and her lawyer in the near future.

Earl Jones is in custody after his guilty plea Jan. 15 on charges of defrauding his clients of $50 million.
