Anyone whose enjoyed an episode of The Big Bang Theory will definitely want to go to Vanier College from Feb. 16 to 18 as 600 high school and Cegep students take part in the 11th annual CRC Robotics Competition.
Each group of students have to build their own robot which will be pitted against other team creations.
All the work is done exclusively by students – teachers, engineers, and outside specialists are welcome but for advice only.
Except for a motor and a control box that each team receives, everything about the robot – a kiosk , a video and a website - is conceived and built by the students, and where language is necessary, both French and English must be used.
"The CRC Robotics competition is about both competition and cooperation," says Peter Szilagyi, Head Coordinator, CRC Robotics. "The final game pits robots against one another, but during the preliminary heats, the teams must also work together.
He said some schools have teams of 100 students and some school have two teams.
"Some teams create costumes to go with their kiosk," he said. "There’s no limit to their imagination."
The event is free and open to the public.
