The West Island Assistance Fund is now accepting donations of food and toys for their Christmas basket program and will accept registrations into the program beginning next month.
The non-profit organization is also looking for a warehouse where donations could be stored until the holidays.
“We have a limited space here and would only need the storage space on a temporary basis,” Carmen Mitrana, spokesman for the organization, said Monday.
She said canned or dry food as well as toys, preferably new, would be welcome so that the organization can put together Christmas baskets for needy West Island residents who may be down on their luck.
Last year, the fund distributed 1,118 baskets.
As well, anyone wanting to register to receive a basket will be able to do so between Nov. 3 and Dec. 5 by going to the WIAF’s Roxboro address at 9 Commercial Centre St. Registration will take place from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays and from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays. Bring identification as well as proof of residence and income. The program is open to West Island residents only.
