An introduction to orienteering for all ages, including families, will take place Sunday (April 19) in Beaconsfield.
“Orienteering is a competitive sport for some, a recreational activity for others, John Charlow, spokesman for the non-profit Ramblers Orienteering Club, said in a prepared statement. “It involves navigation on foot, decision-making and endurance and club events are suitable for runners or walkers, including families.”
The introductory event, which takes place April 19 between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. begins and ends at Windermere Park at the corner of Sherbrooke St. and Windermere Rd. in Beaconsfield.
“This introductory event will require finding one’s way through a network of winding roads and mini-parks using a specially prepared large-scale colour map,” he said. Three course lengths are offered. The cost is $8.
