Pointe Claire is waiting for the police report into the stabbing of one of its security guards last week before deciding if any changes to its security service procedures are needed.
“The whole event is the subject of a police investigation. Any changes would be entirely dependent on the results of that investigation,” said Pointe Claire Mayor Bill McMurchie.
The incident occurred June 9 at 4 a.m. at Alexandre Bourgeau Park. One of the town’s security guards was stabbed while coming to the aid of a woman whom he believed was being attacked.
The security guard was doing his usual rounds when he spotted a BMW parked in the lot inside the waterfront park. The park is closed at that hour, said Montreal Police Constable Liliana Bellucci. The car had no permanent licence plate. A temporary paper licence was taped to the car window.
“When the guard approached the vehicle, he spotted three men – described as white, between 25 and 30 years old and French speaking – who appeared to be attacking a woman in her 20s,” Bellucci said.
That is when the guard got out of his vehicle to intervene. The three men attacked him.
“One man, who was armed with a knife, stabbed the guard in the abdomen and in one arm,” Bellucci said.
When the security guard fell to the ground, they punched and kicked him. He temporarily lost consciousness.
The three men then took off in the BMW, described as a black newer model series 500, four-door with tinted windows.
The woman, described by police as white, blonde about 5’5”, 110 pounds and wearing a spring coat, ran away across the park.
The guard was treated at Sacré Coeur hospital and released.
“His injuries were not life-threatening,” McMurchie said.
It was not known last week when he would return to work.
“We are happy he was not seriously injured; no one would like to see anyone hurt while on the job,” the mayor added.
The town’s 12 security officers are not armed but are equipped with radios. They are instructed to call police should they come across a dangerous incident.
