Postscript: LBPSB Council Meeting of June 29, 2009
Five points:
First: I messed-up with my last post: 'LBPSB: a Citizen's Year End Report to Council' - the second link below (8373).
This West Island Gazette link contains sub-links.The first is a link to a June 3, 2007 article in Le Devoir: 'La CSDM se dotera d' un ombudsman'. I just discovered that the complete article is available only to subscribers. Hence, the eleven commentaries that follow the article are not accessible. They are now. The thrust of all pieces deal with the need for fairness.
Second: my comments regarding the Pearson board budget at the first question/comment period at the webcast Council meeting are not properly viewable. (heard but not seen) This is a first. This is not fair. Everything else like all other previous meetings is intact.
Regardless, there were two other speakers that make the webcast of the June 29 meeting a must-see. The reference to the CAI (access to information) by a commissioner and a parent is significant. Take a glance.
For the record, (this is rough) I did say as a school-taxpaying citizen, I was glad to see the government cracking down on about half of Quebec’s school-boards' financial matters. I also reminded the Board that it was given $100,000 by the government to do the budget as requested. (Coincidentally, next day our school-tax bill arrived.)
Third: the photo - picture of two tote bags and a certificate. The Gazette and the Fédération Professionelle des Journalistes du Québec are listed as "indispensable" supporters of the summer school program offered by the Université de Montréal. Le Devoir is a ‘partenaire’.
Fourth: a quote from President Obama's 'New Beginning' speech in Cairo on June 4th:
" I am convinced that in order to move forward, we must say openly the things we hold in our hearts, and that too often are said only behind closed doors."
Fifth: The Gazette, July 6, 2009 “Soldier from Quebec succumbs to wounds”. Prime Minister Harper said that Canadians honour Charles-Philippe Michaud who strived to “bring Afghans a better future and make Canadians safer.” In contrast: http://westislandgazette.com/news/news/7097
