Passenger dies in jeep crash in Île Bizard

20-year-old succumbs to his injuries in hospital

A man in his early 20s died in hospital yesterday after the car he was a passenger in veered out of control Sunday, struck a tree and then bounced off of it on Île Bizard.

The impact caused the man and the driver to be ejected from the vehicle, a jeep, which was heading east on Cherrier St. near des Cèdres Ave. at about 11:40 p.m., Montreal police Constable André Leclerc said.

The driver was in stable condition yesterday in a hospital. Speed was definitely a factor in the accident, Leclerc said, although it is too early to say whether or not alcohol played a role.

Tragedy on Ile Bizard

This is the second accident on the same stretch of road in the last 2 months.  The first involved 4 teenagers that lost control and flipped their van by Des Noyers.  Luckily all 4 walked away unharmed.  Although Police have been recently radaring this stretch of road it seems to not make a differnce.  Cars speed at 110KM's / hr. trying to see how fast they can go down Dutours.  It seems to be some kind of game.

I don't think it is right to blame the Police for this accident.  It is impossible for them to be everywhere to babysit drivers.  Driving is a priveldge not a right!  Let this be a lesson to all - Slow Down and where your seatbelts!!!

My heart and prayers goes out to the Families and Freinds for their loss.  I cannot begin to imagine for a second what you are going though.
