Montrealers and West Islanders can celebrate opening weekend of Hudson Village Theatre on June 21 by taking a special entertainment-filled train to a performance of All Grown Up, this season’s opening play at the 148-seat theatre, fittingly located in the town’s historic train station.
“Leave your car at home and climb on board,” said Carolyn Flower, director of marketing and promotion for the award-winning village theatre. “It’s a perfect chance for a traffic-free day in the country.”
The M&M Express Destination Hudson will leave Lucien l’Allier station in Montreal at 12:45 p.m., stopping at the Beaconsfield station at 1:05 p.m. It is schedule to arrive in Hudson at 1:45 p.m.
“There will be live entertainment as well as things for passengers to nibble on during the ride,” Flower said.
“And passengers will have a choice of a 2 p.m. matinée or 6 p.m. performance of the first show of our summer season: All Grown Up, a musical of ’60s-style songs that tells the story of the lives of three very different women.
“As well, before or after the show, passengers can shop in the village and can have lunch or dinner at participating merchants and restaurants,” Flower added.
The cost of a train ticket, which includes the show as well as discount coupons from participating merchants and restaurants, is $50, taxes included. The train will take its passengers back home at 8:30 p.m. with a 9:10 p.m stop at the Beaconsfield train station and a 9:30 p.m. arrival at Lucien l’Allier.
As for Hudson Village Theatre’s summer program, All Grown Up will be presented from June 19 to July 6.
Campbell’s Sutra, written by Rick Blue of Bowser and Blue fame, will be presented from July 10 to 27. Campbell’s Sutra is a politically incorrect, adulterous and sometimes naked romp about Campbell, a middle-aged adolescent whose life unravels as one friend dies, one has a baby and he gives away his most prized possession, a vintage Thunderbird.
The Dik and Mitzi Anniversary Show, vintage Vaudeville with a twist reminiscent of The Carol Burnett Show, written and performed by Wayne Doba and Andrea Conway, will run July 31 to Aug. 3.
Storm Warning, a poignant romantic comedy written by Norm Foster and directed by Hudson Village Theatre’s artistic director, Andrew Johnston, will run from Aug. 14 to 31.
Storm Warning is about Jack, a WW II veteran who has retreated from life, and Emma, a big band chart writer who is searching for a bit of solitude to work. They are thrown together one weekend.
A Little Music in the Night, a Hudson Village Theatre fundraiser, featuring former Hudsonite and current European opera star Stephanie Marshall and maestro Brian Jackson perform arias, songs and piano stylings Aug. 8 and 9. Each performance will be followed by a reception.
Hard Ryde, one of Canada’s top bluegrass bands, performs at the theatre Aug. 17.
