Two young men age 16 and 17 entered not-guilty pleas in
Quebec Youth Court yesterday after a 22-year-old man hosting a party
in Pierrefonds over the weekend was hospitalized with multiple stab
wounds.
Crown prosecutors oppose the release of both minors on bail. A
joint bail hearing for the pair is expected to begin this morning.
Because neither is an adult, their names cannot be published.
The stabbing took place about 12:50 a.m. Sunday, at the corner of
Pierrefonds Blvd. and Coulon St., police said. It took place on
public property, not in the host's home, Montreal police Constable
Laurent Gingras said.
Charged with aggravated assault and breach of bail conditions from
an earlier incident, the 16-year-old entered his not-guilty pleas
from the prisoner's box yesterday. None of his family members was
present in court.
The 17-year-old entered identical pleas on identical charges. He
also pleaded not guilty to a third charge - breaking probation. He
had been prohibited from any contact with one individual who was
apparently involved in the incident, according to the Crown.
The mother of the 17-year-old was present and identified herself to
Judge Carole Brosseau.
The host was stabbed in the neck and the lower back. He is
hospitalized, Gingras said last night, but his life is not in
danger.
