Pointe Claire backs down on collecting info

Seniors object to scrutiny over benefit of free bus tickets

After receiving several complaints from seniors, the city of Pointe Claire decided to compromise on aspects of the controversial survey for its bus and train tickets distribution program.
The city will no longer keep sensitive information on file, but will erase everything except the ticket user’s age and income.
This information is essential for the city to know who is being serviced by the program, which is funded by the taxpayer, said Ginette Brisebois, who is responsible for the ticket program.
Pointe Claire residents over 65 are eligible for up to 10 free public transit tickets a month.
But recently, the city of Pointe Claire sent out a survey demanding residents answer questions about their ticket usage and requesting a copy of their federal or provincial notices of assessment, to continue being part of the program.
The assessment contains private information like social insurance numbers and income figures.
But even after the changes, some residents are still not satisfied.
Robert Poulet said he’s still refusing to take part, but he’s not going to fight any more.

Stats Canada has all this information - by postal code

Why are Senior Citizens being treated this way. I am amazed that these City Employees do not know about Stats. Canada. Anyone can go on the internet and request the average salary of the residents by age group and by postal code.

I read all the time about crime and the dangers of riding the bus. I think the City should take a third look at their disgusting policy and phone stats Canada to get the information they need for their study. They should be ashames of themselves.

If I were a politician I would be embarassed and frankly would think twice when next election comes around. You see if they were as smart as myself, they would go onto the stats. Can web site and realize most of their home owners in Point Claire are Senior Age or a Boomer who is about to become a senior.

I challenge the politicians of Point Claire to come on this blog and reply to my message. Explain to me how you can be so insensitive and irresponsible for the senior citizens of your community. I see seniors getting on the bus and I am afraid for their saftey. How about you....
