A St. Lazare store clerk learned the hard way that trying to stop a thief can be a dangerous thing.
The clerk at a convenience store on Ste. Angélique St. was injured Saturday when he was hit in the face with a case of beer when he attempted to stop a female shoplifter from fleeing the store. The clerk told police the customer attempted to leave the store without paying for about $20 worth of beer and food items.
Police were called. They made an arrest. The store employee was transported to hospital and treated for cuts to his face.
