West Island Shares launches giving campaign

West Island Community Shares launched its 11th annual fundraising campaign Sept. 27 with a six-kilometre walk through West Island streets.
The 2008-2009 campaign goal has been set at $675,000, said Caroline Tison, executive director of Community Shares.
“Thanks to generous individuals and corporate donors from the West Island, we are already more than halfway there,” Tison said.
Funding provided by Community Shares last year helped 29 community groups reach more than 27,000 West Islanders.
“I’m optimistic that West Islanders will rally to ensure that these important services are maintained in our own community,” Tison said.
The 2008-2009 campaign will run until March. Donations can be made through WICS’ secure Web server at www.communityshares.ca.
