Nine young people, including seven boys and two girls, were
ticketed last week for setting up a bonfire in the Bois de l'Île
Bizard Nature Park.
One of the youths was also cited for possession of marijuana.
Montreal Police Constable Daniel Maheu said police received a call
at 11:15 p.m on May 16 saying 30 to 40 youths had started the
bonfire in the park, near the corner of Jacques Bizard Blvd. and
Lavigne St. in Île Bizard.
"Three police cars went to the scene and the youth scattered,
although we were able to apprehend nine of them, all 16- or
17-years-olds and from all over, including Île Bizard, Kirkland,
Dorval and Pierrefonds and Roxboro."
The fine for making a bonfire or campfire without authorization is
$50.
