Police Blotter Tuesday, February 26, 2008

Be careful letting someone into your home

Station #4

Police are looking for a renovation man whom they think may have stolen thousands of dollars from one of his customers, a 65-year-old Roxoro man.

“The case has been sent to our investigation department,” Constable Leslie Potts said Tuesday.

She said the Roxboro man saw an ad for a renovation specialist and called for an estimate on some work he wanted done on his 5th Ave. South home. The renovation expert showed up at the Roxboro man’s home on Feb. 20 and while left alone, may have stolen $5,000 from the homeowner’s wallet, said Potts.

She said the homeowner had left the renovation man alone for a few minutes. The Roxboro man noticed the missing money only after the renovation man had left.

"We want to remind people to be very careful if you let someone you don't know well into your home, for whatever reason," she said.
