Bogus $100 bills in circulation

Station #4

Be on the lookout for bogus $100 bills. That’s the word from police in the wake of two separate cases in Dollard des Ormeaux last week.
Police said that in both cases, the people who were trying to pay with the fake $100 bills, did not realize the money was counterfeit.
“ They seemed surprised,” said Montreal Police Constable Chantal Castonguay.
The first incident occurred June 28 at a drugstore on Hyman Drive. The cashier spotted the counterfeit bill when a young man tried to make a $2 purchase.
The next day, the cashier at the Société des Alcools du Québec outlet on St. John’s Blvd. spotted a fake $100 bill when a Pierrefonds woman tried to pay for her purchases.
“If someone tries to pay you with a $100 check it for paper or printing quality and, if you can, have it checked at a bank,” Castonguay said.
Counterfeit $100 bills have also been reported in Lachine and the Vaudreuil-Dorion area in the past week.
