The arrest of five people in Laval on Aug. 11 following the theft of copper from a building in St. Laurent could help solve similar cases, police say.
Police were alerted to a situation at about 1:15 a.m. when an employee of a security firm, Groupe Cantin Geoffrion Investigation, called to report a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of one of the firm’s clients.
At 2:20 a.m., the security guard called police again, saying two men had broken into the building and loaded metal into their car. The employee was trailing the car.
Police stopped a vehicle on Highway 440 in Laval and arrested five people and seized several pieces of copper. Police say they now hope to solve other thefts of high-priced copper that have occurred recently.
