Man who broke into a depanneur claims he wanted food

Station #8

A 35-year-old Lachine man who was arrested breaking into a dépanneur told police he was trying to get into the store because he wanted food.
But police question his story.
“We don’t know if that’s true, but it’s very doubtful,” said Montreal Police Constable Martin Desmarais, noting the man was riding an expensive bike and was caught with tools often used to break and enter, including a screwdriver, a small axe and pliers.
Desmarais said police received a call at 2:49 a.m. on Nov. 24, saying someone was breaking into a convenience store on Provost St.
When police showed up, the man tried to run away.
