Supporters of Health Partners International Canada (HPIC) gathered last week to celebrate a 400 millionth milestone achieved by the Dollard des Ormeaux not-for-profit organization since its founding in 1990.
The relief and development organization has now hit $400 million in medical aid collected and distributed to tens of thousands of people in need in more than 100 countries in the developing world.
In 2011, alone, HPIC assembled more than 1,000 physician travel packs, a mobile medical kit that contains basic medicines and supplies than can provide up to 600 treatments. Each kit contains anti-malarials, antibiotics, oral rehydration fluids, analgesics, topical creams and anti-parasitics.
“Our whole focus is to improve access to medicine,” said Christina Parsons, a spokesperson for the organization, who also thanked HPIC’s partners from the pharmaceutical and health care industry in the Montreal area. “We are improving the health of people around the world,” she said.
