Jesuit priest and retired science teacher Father Louis Bourgeois remains in hospital after being viciously beaten outside the religious retreat Villa St. Martin on Gouin Blvd. in Pierrefonds, Monday morning.

The 86-year-old is at Sacre Coeur hospital, where he was operated on for serious upper body and head injuries, including a severely injured eye. It is believed Father Bourgeois was walking to his small camper trailer, which is parked on the Villa’s grounds, and might have surprised by a squatter.

Police continue to gather evidence and interview people who were near the scene at the time of the incident.

Father Bourgeois is originally from St-Hyacyinthe and was ordained as a priest in 1959. He taught science at Collège Jean de Brébeuf until 2005 and continued to work as a consultant for the science department until retiring less then a year ago.
