Eddy Nolan to be honoured with Diamond Jubilee Medal

West Island marathon runner Eddy Nolan will be awarded Canada’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for his years of inspirational community service in the name of Terry Fox.

Since 1981, the Île Bizard resident has run 31 times in the Terry Fox Marathon Hope, an annual run to raise funds for cancer research.

Nolan will be awarded the Diamond Jubilee medal in a ceremony later this week at Roslyn School in Westmount where he works as a janitor.

In January 2011, Nolan, who trains at the West Island Y was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer but he continues to run and raise money to fight cancer. This year, he launched a campaign to see April 12 recognized as National Terry Fox Day.

The medal was created this year to mark the 2012 celebration of the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. This year, the medal will be bestowed upon 60,000 Canadians.
