Property taxes in Baie-d’Urfe going up slightly in 2013

Baie-d’Urfé homeowners face a minor property tax hike in 2013.

“We have managed to keep the overall tax increase in 2013 to 0.79 per cent even though the agglomeration tax increase was 1.54 per cent for our town,” stated Mayor Maria Tutino. “Over 72 per cent of our taxes go to the City of Montreal for regional services. This means that local taxes went down 1.1 per cent.”

Baie-d’Urfé’s new budget, adopted Dec. 19, is set at just under $18 million, with $11 million of that amount headed to the agglomeration. The operating budget represents an increase of about two per cent from 2012.

The town’s mill rate is set at $0.7050/per $100 of valuation for residential properties.

The average home in the town, valued at $530,961, will have a property tax bill of $3,743 in 2013.

This means an average increase of about $29 from 2012, taking into account both the agglomeration and local tax bill charges.

A residential water tariff remains at $89 per home for a maximum consumption of 50,000 gallons, after which water will be invoiced at $3.58 per 1,000 gallons used.

The town also tabled its three-year capital program, with $2 million slated for projects this year, about $1.4 million in 2014 and $1.7 million for 2015.

The main project for this year is the $915,000 expansion of the town hall with all the funding coming from the town’s surplus, the mayor said.

Other highlights for this year include an extension of a berm on the eastern part of the town to prevent noise pollution from Highway 20 that is pegged at $145,000 and another $180,000 is to be allotted for the reconstruction of the Morgan Rd. pathway.
