$1.3 million for upgrades in Pierrefonds parks

Parks throughout Pierrefonds-Roxboro will see unexpected upgrades this summer after the borough received a surprise infusion of $1.3 million in funding from the city of Montreal.

Montreal officials announced on Wednesday, Feb. 6, that an extra $42 million in the city’s three-year capital budget had been found and, $31.5 million of it would go to the city’s 19 boroughs, $1.3 million to Pierrefonds.

Pierrefonds officials said the extra funding would allow them to replace park benches and picnic tables, repair trails and fast-track several projects throughout the borough’s network of parks.

Among the prioritized projects: chalet upgrades in Brook, Alexander and Roxboro Parks; the stabilization of the shoreline in Hélène-Legault Park; playground improvements in Paquin Park and Rive-Boiséé Park; and new fencing and a press box in Brook Park.

Further details about the projects will only be available at a later date, said Bassam Charrani, a borough spokesperson.
