Arson investigators await results of evidence analysis from Dormez-Vous head office firebombing

Police arson investigators are awaiting results of an analysis of evidence gathered following the firebombing early Monday of the Pointe Claire head office of the Dormez-Vous mattress-retailing chain.

“Investigators have to wait for analysis of elements that were seized on the scene,” Constable Anie Lemieux added Tuesday morning.

“I won’t get into details for the elements that were taken,” she said, adding that she does not want to hinder the probe.

Lemieux would not provide details of the type of graffiti found when firefighters arrived.

“There is no suspect arrested,” Lemieux did say.

No employees were on the premises when a window was broken and a small fire set in a reception area about 12:30 a.m. Monday at the combined office-warehouse facility on Hymus Blvd., between Sources Blvd. and Delmar Ave.

Traces of an accelerant prompted firefighters, who had been summoned by an alarm system, to hand the case over to the cops.

The fire burned itself out, police said. Damages were limited to the reception area, the company said.

The office serves as a distribution and pickup centre.

“This is a shocking and unexplained situation but we are thankful nobody was hurt,” a statement from company president Stewart Schaefer said.

While Schaefer was not immediately available Tuesday morning for further information, the release added that “we want to reassure our clients that all deliveries will take place as usual and that customer services are fully functional.”

The privately held chain, founded in 1994, has 46 Quebec locations.
