Firefighters called to the scene of a house fire in Île Bizard on Tuesday night found a man inside who was declared dead after efforts to revive him failed.
Michel Bourgeois, an operations chief for the Montreal Fire Department, said the bungalow on 5th Ave, near the corner of Bord du Lac Rd., was already engulfed in flames when they arrived, shortly before 7 p.m.
He said the man, 51, was found unconscious inside and firefighters removed him. But efforts made to resuscitate the man were halted before ambulance technicians arrived, Bourgeois said. The victim was the only person inside the home at the time.
Bourgeois also said the bungalow was destroyed by the fire and that the investigation into its origins will be turned over to the Montreal police, which is standard procedure in a fatal fire in Montreal.
