A Pointe Claire apartment building that was the site of a fatal fire that claimed the lives of a mother and a her teenage son 15 months ago, is now being rebuilt.

The 34-unit building at 504 St. Jean Blvd. was purchased by a new owner September 2012 and, that Montreal property owner has now begun work to reconstruct the building.

The structure has been vacant since it was badly damaged in the November 2011 fire that claimed the lives of Razmig Soukiassian, a Secondary 2 student at St. Thomas High School and, his mother, Carolin Boghosian.

“We are redoing everything from A to Z,” Michel Elbaz, the building’s new manager said on Monday.

Elbaz added the $1.5 million reconstruction project will consist of a new roof, wall reinforcements, new floors, walls, kitchens and bathrooms and several upgrades, including landscaping and the building’s first ever elevator.

The apartment building is part of a complex of four-storey buildings that were constructed on the northwest corner of St. Jean Blvd. and Douglas Shand Ave. about 50 years ago but, all have different owners.
