The charred remains of an abandoned Pointe-Claire house are now cordoned off with fencing and investigators are trying to determine what set off the blaze that destroyed the property.
Montreal firefighters were called to 202 Cartier Ave., Wednesday, July 23 at about 11:45 p.m. Close to three dozen firefighters responded to the 911-call but the two-storey house could not be saved.
On Monday, Élise Breault, a spokesperson for the Service de Sécurité incendie de Montréal said the investigation has been transferred to the Montreal police department’s arson squad.
Although the Cartier Ave house was located north of the CN and CP railway tracks, its distinctive red roof made it easy to see from Highway 20 and from the AMT commuter train on the Vaudreuil-Hudson line. According to city tax records, the was built in 1954 and belongs to a numbered company.
