Pointe-Claire Diving Club members win big at Commonwealth Games

The Pointe-Claire Diving Club brought home eight medals from the Commonwealth Games held in Edinburgh last week.

Four divers from the club represented the Canadian delegation at the competition from July 30-Aug. 2. Jennifer Abel, Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion are all Olympic divers, while Vincent Riendeau is a young diver who competed in his first major international meet.

They collectively won four gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

Abel won a gold medal for the one-metre platform and two silver medals on the solo and synchronized three-metre springboards.

Benfeito won two gold medals on both the synchronized and solo 10-metre platforms.

Filion also won gold for the synchronized 10-metre platform and received bronze on the 10-metre platform.

Riendeau captured a bronze in the 10-metre platform.

The club is having tryouts from 10 a.m. to noon on Aug. 12-14 at the Pointe-Claire Aquatic Centre.
