A former mayor of Roxboro has died.

Ovide Baciu, who was the last mayor of the town of Roxboro from 1990 until the municipality merger with the city of Montreal in 2002, died Aug. 5. He was 65.

“It is with great emotion that I extend my deepest condolences to the family and
friends of Mr. T. Ovide Baciu,” said Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough mayor Jim Beis in a statement Friday.

“This great man was to me a model, a friend, my
mentor. There are few people we meet on our path who are so influential in shaping
the course of our lives. His accomplishments for the betterment of the citizens of
Roxboro, his memory, the memory of a man involved and his humanism will remain
ever present. “

Baciu was a guest of honor at the launch of the 100th anniversary
celebrations in Roxboro Park last February. He had planned to be at Roxboro Day next Saturday, Aug. 16, an event he attended for many years.

Flags at the Borough Hall in Pierrefonds-Roxboro were lowered to half
staff Firday in honour of Baciu.

Baciu’s funeral will be held on Thursday, Aug. 14, at Roxboro United Church at 11 a.m. A private Interment will follow.

Salut Ovide !
