Pointe Claire swimmers Jason Boivin and Myriam Donato both qualified for the Canadian varsity championships with impressive performances for McGill at an invitational meet at Dalhousie University on the weekend.
Boivin, a 20-year-old civil engineering sophomore, won gold and qualified for nationals in the gruelling 1500-metre freestyle, posting a time of 16 minutes, 12.36 seconds.
He also qualified in the 100 backstroke with a personal-best time of 58.07 seconds.
Donato, a 19-year-old freshman majoring in anatomy and cell biology, won the 100 butterfly (1:05.58) and qualified for nationals in both the 200 fly (2:23.58) and 200 individual medley (2:23.82), finishing second in each event.
The Redmen finished second of six teams, while the Martlets placed third on the women’s side.
