Île Bizard’s Matt Thornhill was named McGill’s male athlete of the week after leading the Redmen to a pair of upset wins in Quebec conference basketball action.
While wearing a face mask to protect a broken nose, the 6-foot-4 guard collected a total of 51 points and 12 rebounds during a 72-65 win over Laval on Friday and a 60-59 victory over UQAM on Sunday.
The 22-year-old finance senior also became the seventh player in McGill history to score 1,500 points in a career. He currently leads the QUBL in both scoring and rebounds, averaging 20.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
