The North Shore Lions now have the title for the Bill Allen division all sewn up with their most recent 17-0 victory over the Sun Youth Hornets, bringing their record for this season to a perfect 8-0.
The Hornets have proven to be the bane of the North Shore offence this year, as for the second time this season the Lions had difficulty getting their game on track and getting past the Sun Youth defence.
Although things went much better for the Lions this time than when these two teams last faced each other, there were still a number of turnovers and missed assignments that made the game more difficult than it needed to be. Andrew Hopkins carried the brunt of the load for the Lions with 16 rushes for 220 yards and scoring both TDs. Shawn Steen got both converts. Hopkins scored another point on a touchback when a kickoff sailed into the opposing endzone and the defence was credited with the remaining 2 points when they scored a safety.
The Lions defence played a solid game, ensuring that the Hornets never crossed the goal line and chalking up another shutout for the orange and blue. Trevor Cernivz led with 5 tackles, while Glody Bomolo and Kadeem Nurse each got a QB sack. Shawn Steen came up with 2 fumble recoveries, while Francis Chiquette got one.
Next week, the Lions are away for their last road game of the season where they will travel to St. Lazare to meet the Stallions. The game is at Westwood HS on Saturday, Oct. 11th at 4 p.m.
