Western Patriotes Pee-Wee head to NSFL semifinals

posted by CoachJim at 12h53

After only their third year in existence, the Western Patriots Football Association is sending a peewee team to the North Shore semifinals.

The Patriotes (8-2) had an incredible year and finished second in the NSFL by winning a hard-fought battle over their rivals, the St. Lazare Stallions last Sunday by a score of 22-16.

The Patriotes controlled the first half with a touchdown scored by Samuel Methot. The Patriots defence held the Stallions potent offence off the scoreboard.

Early in the third quarter, the Patriots struck again, with Methot on a long run up the middle for the TD.

Gerry Mavrokefelos added another touchdown on a beautiful pass from QB Samuel Dumoulin.

The Stallions stormed back and scored two touchdowns, one each from Kevin Cronn and Vincent McNeil.
The Stallions made it a game when the Patriotes fumbled on their own 1 yard line, and the Stalions fought back to almost score.

"I am extremely proud of my team," said head coach Jim Beauchamp. "These boys are the only team in NSFL peewee who beat every other team at least once. They dug deep right from the beginning of the year and proved to themselves that with hard work and dedication, anything can happen."

The Westren Patriots will play host to Sunnybrooke at École Virginie-Roi for the NSFL semifinals next weekend. The other semifinal will have Alexander Park (9-1) play host to St. Lazare Stallions (7-3).
