The defending champion North Shore Lions continue to rule the Quebec bantam football ranks.
The unbeaten Lions improved to 8-0 in the Bill Allen Division on Friday with a 17-0 victory over the Sun Youth Hornets at Riverdale Park in Pierrefonds.
Running back Andrew Hopkins had a huge game for North Shore, rushing 16 times for 220 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
He added another point on a touchback.
Defensively, Trevor Cernivz led the powerhouse Lions with five tackles, while Glody Bomolo and Kadeem Nurse each had a quarterback sack.
Shawn Steen came up with two fumble recoveries, while Francis Chiquette had one.
Steen also booted a pair of converts for the Lions, who meet the Stallions this Saturday at Westwood High School in St. Lazare. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
In CEGEP Triple-A action, the Vanier College Cheetahs dropped a 15-14 decision to the Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars on Saturday at the Concordia University Football Field.
Rémi Biakabutuka (26-yard run) and Michael Harrington (11-yard pass) scored majors for the Cheetahs, who led 14-3 heading into the final quarter. Vanier quarterback Myles Gibbon completed 12 of 32 pass attempts for 164 yards. Michael Harrington was his favourite target with six receptions for 78 yards.
Biakabutuka rushed for 88 yards on 14 carries, while Mendy Cardichon booted a pair of converts. Byron Perez-Archambault anchored the Vanier defence with 15 tackles.
Vanier battles F.X. Garneau this Sunday in Quebec City.
In CEGEP Double-A, the John Abbott Islanders (3-4) defeated Trois-Rivières 31-20 on Saturday.
Running back Emmanuel Musangu rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns, while teammate Ryan Hobbs scored his first TD of the season off a blocked punt.
Receiver Scott Mironowicz scored the other JAC major, while Fernando Parades added a field goal. Isles quarterback Terrance Morsink completed 12 of 23 passes for 230 yards, while Mironowicz hauled in seven passes for 132 yards.
Defensively, James Clement and Vince Nardone had six tackles, while Philippe Lavallée, Kevin Morin and Matthew Broadfoot were credited with four apiece.
In junior, the St. Lazare Stallions dropped their third consecutive decision in a 21-6 loss to the Châteauguay Raiders.
Justin McLean scored the Stallions’ lone TD on a three-yard pass from quarterback Alex Houle.
Running back Chris McCarthy paced the offence with 106 yards on 14 carries.
Defensive standouts included Charles-Olivier Conway and Tyler Valdez, who had a fumble recovery and eight tackles. Daniel Menard had six tackles.
