It will be a short summer for Ugo Notargiacomo.

The Pointe Claire resident is the new president of Hockey West Island. He replaces Kevin O’Reilly in the top post of the association which groups together players from Pointe Claire and Dorval on 59 teams.

Hockey West Island recently took collective pride with the selection of Dillon Donnelly of Dorval in the first round of the recent Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft.

Donnelly, a 6-foot-1, 182-pound defenceman who played last season for the Lac St. Louis midget Triple-A Lions, was selected 16th overall by the Moncton Wildcats.

“Obviously, that’s good news,” Notargiacomo said.

“We’re also pleased to have two Biega brothers, Alex and Michael, at Harvard.”
Notargiacomo said the girls’ hockey portfolio promises to keep him busy during the summer.

“If girls are allowed to play (boys) hockey next year. We expect a lot of girls in peewee to switch over. But not so much at bantam and midget.”

He said the girls regional intercity model could be revamped next year to add a third team in each category.

“We might have Elites, Selects and perhaps something else, but nothing has been decided yet.

“It might not be a bad idea though, because the girls will be playing closer to home.”
Notargiacomo also announced that Pro Action Hockey, in collaboration with Hockey West Island, will be hosting a pre-season exhibition game between the Montreal Juniors and Gatineau Olympiques.

The game will take place on Friday, Aug. 28, at Bob Birnie Arena in Pointe Claire.
“We’re expecting a big crowd for that game,” said Notargiacomo.
