Louis Leblanc Night in Dollard

Lions will pay tribute to Louis Leblanc of Kirkland on Friday. (Gazette file)

The Dollard Civic Centre should be packed with hockey fans this Friday for Louis Leblanc Night.

The Lac St. Louis Lions will play tribute to their former star centre prior to the 7:30 p.m. midget Triple-A season-opener against the Magog Cantonniers.

Leblanc, fresh off last month’s gold-medal performance with Team Canada under-18 squad at the Ivan Hlinka Tournament in the Czech Republic, will soon be headed to Omaha to play one season for the Lancers of the United States Junior Hockey League.

The 17-year-old Kirkland resident is expected to enroll at Harvard University in the fall of 2009.

The Lions will also host members of the Lakeshore Minor Hockey Association, where Leblanc played his youth hockey before making the jump to the midget Triple-A ranks, where he posted league-leading totals of 31 and 54 goals in each of his two seasons with the Lions.
He’ll be missed.
