Soccer takes centre stage this weekend at a park near you

posted by jmeagher at 15h56

Ready for Euro 2008, West Island edition?

This weekend some 3,000 players on 192 teams are entered in the 20th annual Lac St. Louis National Outdoor Soccer Tournament.

Even though registration has dipped this year, the Lac St. Louis tournament remains the biggest sporting event of the year on the West Island.

It has come to signal the arrival of high-end competition for local intercity teams who’ll play hundreds of games over two days at 38 fields across the region, from Pierrefonds to Pincourt and points beyond.

Those logistics are mind-boggling, but organizers pull it off year after year with barely a hiccup.

Tournament finals in all division from - U-9 to U-18 --will be held on Sunday, which happens to be Father’s Day.
