Girls take to the pitch in Pierrefonds: The second portion of the Pierrefonds 3-on-3 Challenge takes place this weekend with 139 girls teams competing in 17 divisions from ages 8 and up.
The boys’ side of the tournament, which took place the weekend of July 5-6, featured outstanding play.
Tournament registrar Rosemarie Gartner had a story from the boys event she said captured the spirit of 3-on-3 soccer.
“The Lakeshore Street Ballers came to registration early on Saturday morning with only two players because one of their players had just received an injury the night before,” Gartner said.
“They knew they wouldn’t be able to play with two on the field, but came to ask at the registration desk if there were any spare players on other teams that might want play. They just wanted to play. This was around 10 minutes before their scheduled game.
“I asked the next senior team registering (a house-league team) if they had a spare player. Well, they called a teammate, woke him up, and the guy was at the field in 10 minutes. These three guys played the whole tournament together right up to the finals.
“I take my sunhat off to these three fellas who just wanted to play for the love of the game.”
