Peter Smith of Lachine has been appointed an assistant coach for the national women’s hockey team at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
Melody Davidson returns as head coach of Team Canada, a post she relinquished to Smith last season to focus on her Hockey Canada duties as national team general manager.
Under Smith, Canada won a silver medal at the 2008 IIHF world championships in China.
Smith was also part of Team Canada’s coaching staff at the 2006 Olympics in Turin, where Canada captured the gold medal.
Smith, 55, was named Canadian university hockey’s coach of the year in 2007-08 after guiding the McGill Martlets to their first CIS national championship.
