Al's Flory throws support behind Île Perrot football

Jamboree set for Aug. 2

The Western Patriots Football Association will host the inaugural Scott Flory Jamboree on Saturday, Aug. 2, in Île Perrot.
Flory, an offensive lineman with the Montreal Alouettes, was happy to lend his support to local amateur football.
“I hope the youth will get as much out of minor football as I did, and have fun doing it,” said Flory, who took up the sport at 10 years old.
“Football provided me with many valuable life skills, such as dedication, work ethic, teamwork and commitment.”
The Patriots association, entering its third season of play, was thrilled with Flory’s involvement, said event organizer Jim Beauchamp.
“We contacted Scott and ... he jumped 100 per cent into the whole organizational side,” Beauchamp said. “He even designed the logo we are using for the jamboree.”
Beauchamp is expecting more than 500 players and 100 coaches to attend the jamboree, which will also serve as the opening of the Pats new home field, behind École Virginie-Roi.
“After not having a true home field for two years, it will be great to play at a regular field,” said Beauchamp, who also serves as head coach of the peewee Pats.
The Patriots have invited 11 local teams ranging from atom (8-9), mosquito (10-11) and peewee (12-13) age levels. The jamboree will feature four local peewee teams and an entry from Burlington, Ont.
This year, the growing Patriots association will also field a bantam team for 14- and 15-year-olds.
Local football fans are invited to attend the jamboree, which takes place at 476 Grand Blvd. in Île Perrot, behind École Virginie-Roi.
