The seventh annual Lac St. Louis National Indoor Soccer Tournament, featuring more than 170 intercity teams, concluded Sunday at the Catalogna Soccerplexe in Lachine.
Ninety-two boys teams and 80 girls teams competed over two weekends.
“This indoor tournament is a well-oiled machine,” said organizer Maya Spano. “It practically runs by itself. We’ve found the perfect formula ... which is to make sure the games run on time.”
One of the better storylines on the girls’ side involved the Pierrefonds Cobras, coached by Caroline Brunelle, who capped a remarkable comeback in the U-12 A category on Sunday.
After dropping their opening game of the tournament to the Ahuntsic Braves on Saturday, the Cobras won their next two games against another Pierrefonds entry (4-0) and the Étoiles de l‘Est (2-0) to advance to the tournament final against the same Braves.
After falling behind 2-0, the Cobras rallied on second-half goals by Liana Garbin and Nathalie Brunelle to tie the score at 2-2.
The Cobras prevailed in penalty kicks to capture their first tournament crown of 2008.
Other members of the winning Pierrefonds team are Emilie Audette, Kelina Baker, Alexa Broster, Stephanie Dessureault, Kathryn Guidry, Olivia McIntyre, Blanche Mitsou, Sara Kimberly Ouimet-Dumaine, Debbie Politakis, Julia Purich, Julia Schoelch, Brianna Ste. Marie, Samantha Velenosi and Julia Yetman.
Meanwhile, a Lakeshore entry took the under-15 AA girls division title.
They defeated the Rivières des Prairies Stingers 2-0 in the final on goals by Catherine Hine and Paule Portugais-Poirier.
Other team members are Tara Salloum, Courtney Waldie, Jessica-Lauren Sadko, Alison Miron, Alexandra Saad, Alexandra Findleton, Yasmeen Birdjandi, Geneviève Cardella-Rinfret, Stephanie Leech-Pepin, Jennifer Hall, Samantha Iannantuoni, Andrea Barker, Julia Mantha, Evangelia Theodosopoulos, Melissa Saveriano.
