Have you ever wondered what drives an artist to the brink of extinction through their own obsession for their art?

What drove Vincent Van Gogh to cut of his own ear? Lead, no doub. But what brings a performer such as Edith Piaf to continue to get up on stage when she barely has breath to live? Because performing is her breath! Just as the politician lives for the rush of power from the chanting crowd, so does the performing artist feed off the love, the adoration of her admirers. It's what keeps them alive even as they slowly try to kill themselves off stage.

For the second year in a row, students from John Abbott College, in collaboration with Volunteer West Island, have organized a Friday “Brunch and Bingo” for seniors within the West Island community.

A COSTUME CONTEST was a special feature of the Halloween Brunch & Bingo session. Participants and students donned a variety of creative disguises that contributed to the festive atmosphere.

It's Saturday afternoon and it looks as if the sun might soon break through the clouds. The weather has been gorgeous all week; more like August than mid-September.

So why, I must ask why, do we have all these amazing new episodes of our favourite TV shows now? Couldn't these shows begin in November?

Now is the time to be out walking, riding our bikes and perhaps taking lots of nature photos.

Aikido is a great workout

Or how about being able to practice a martial art until you're well into your seventies?

These are some of the things that are possible with Aikido. There is a school in Ste. Anne de Bellevue called Mandala Aikido that teaches this gem of a martial art.

During the next two years he found himself utterly frustrated and depressed. Finally, he decided that if he couldn’t fly the skies in a 747, then he would fly along the roadways on his Gold Wing motorcycle. And so a new world opened up.

Squeezed into your own tight skin, which eventually dries and turns into a boring brown colour, where there is no more exciting movement just hanging like a dead sock left out on the clothes line…

Dreamin’ up plans that seemed so far out of reach, dreams of super stardom, remarkable achievements, dreams of a world living in ultimate peace. Thoughts and ideas and vision that thrilled, you felt alive, energized and ready to go. Little did you know, that’s not how the rest of the world worked, sooner or later you’d find that out, you too becoming cynical with a smirk.
